Often fusing genres including, disco, funk, soul, pop, hip-hop and electronic soundscapes to produce huge club anthems - some that took inspiration from the past and some that pointed toward the upcoming new decadeâŠ
LP1 opens with the peerless house classic âGood Lifeâ by Inner City, followed by Kym Mazelle and Robert Howardâs iconic âWaitâ and âPeople Hold Onâ from Coldcut featuring Lisa Stansfield on her chart debut. M/A/R/R/S hit #1 with a âPump Up The Volumeâ a milestone in both UK house and also for the evolution of sampling. Bomb The Bass brings the huge sound of âBeat Disâ, and SâExpress hit the top of the charts and made a timeless dance-floor-filler with âTheme from S-Expressâ. Rob ânâ Raz featuring Leila K. and Technotronic close Side A with their respective dance-party classics.
Side B opens with two disco classics remixed for the late â80s dancefloor - CHICâs âJack Le Freakâ and Chaka Khan with a remix of âIâm Every Womanâ. Pure pop turns into dancefloor magic with a these PWL mixes, as Jakie Quartzâs âA La Vie A L'Amourâ, followed by the remix of âEverlasting Loveâ by Sandra, and Bananramaâs âI Want You Backâ filled dance-floors across Europe. Samantha Fox had a big dance track with âLove Houseâ, and the final track on LP1 is âWaltz Darlingâ by Malcolm McLaren & The Bootzilla Orchestra, celebrating the New York ball culture and itâs vogueing scene.
LP2 kicks off with the hugely influential âBack To Lifeâ from UK pioneers Soul II Soul featuring Caron Wheeler, followed by Ten Cityâs soulful smash âThatâs The Way Love Isâ, and Bobby Brown with his massive dance-floor hit âEvery Little Stepâ. The rest of Side A features different hip-hop styles - Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam with Full Force with their freestyle hit âI Wonder If I Take You Homeâ, a hugely successful fusion of beats, rap and melody from Neneh Cherry with âBuffalo Stanceâ, Salt-N-Pepaâs global smash âPush Itâ comes next, ahead of UK hip-hop and house fusion from The Beatmasters featuring The Cookie Crewâ with âRok Da Houseâ and Wee Papa Girl Rappersâ collision of rap and dancehall with âWee Ruleâ that closes the side.
The final side begins with the ultimate feel-good dance-floor filler, the #1 âThe Only Way Is Upâ by Yazz & The Plastic Population, followed by Krushâs anthem âHouse Arrestâ. Up next, two older tracks that get the late â80s remix treatment: DJ Ben Liebrand remixed âThe Eve Of The Warâ by Jeff Wayne featuring Richard Burton to renewed chart success and the biggest selling 12â single of all time âBlue Mondayâ from New Order was remixed by Quincey Jones as âBlue Monday â88â and was a massive dance track once again! The final three tracks on the collection fittingly come at the end of the decade and lead into the â90s as dance music continued to invent⊠The Stone Rosesâ âFools Goldâ features the psychedelic funk that would be a key ingredient in the burgeoning âbaggyâ scene, and as house music evolved into multiple strands including acid house and ambient house, the closing essentials from 808 State and The Beloved would both become influential tracks that were also inspired and influenced by Ibizaâs Balearic house, and are a perfect conclusion to this collection of 80s dance-floor classics!
